I haven’t written in a while so I thought I’d fill in a little bit of the gap. In January I decided I wasn’t getting any younger and that one of my bucket list items in life was to run a marathon. So with the Rock and Roll Marathon coming to Savannah for the first time this November, I made the commitment to a training program to get me there in 10 months. With the tremendous amount of buildup in running I have not put any miles on the bike. I’m still a cyclist mind you, I just haven’t had the time to get on it and won’t until after November, in which I’ll probably be glad to sit on my butt for exercise.
Another of my lifelong goals is to compete in a triathlon, and 2012 will probably be a good year from that since I’ll hopefully be in good fitness. There are several usually in our area in the spring so I’d really like to put one on my calendar.
I still meet cyclists and yell at them to visit the site an contact me as they zip by me three times my speed (miss that,) please keep in contact with me.

Coastal Bicycle Touring Club ride. August 21, 9:00AM, meet at Holton’s Seafood Restaurant Parking lot. I-95 south to exit 76, next exit past Richmond Hill Highway 17.
The Coastal Bicycle Touring Club is doing their Ft McAllister ride Saturday May 29 at 9:00AM. Meet at Ft McAllister, I usually just ride there but if you drive park at the boat ramp for free and unload there. It goes from the fort back to 144, around Belfast Keller and back to 144 for a stop at the store to regroup, and then continues down 144 to the marina at Kilkenny for a stop on the river and then returns the same route back to the fort.
Another Coastal Bicycle Touring Club ride near by but maybe somewhere you’ve never ridden. May 8, 9:00AM, meet at Holton’s Seafood Restaurant Parking lot. I-95 south to exit 76, next exit past Richmond Hill Highway 17.
I heard about an accident yesterday at the local coffee shop involving a cyclist but no details. I didn’t think anyone I knew would be out mid-morning but hated to hear about this. Seems to be someone passing through though, here are the details from Savannah Morning News;
RICHMOND HILL – A bicyclist, riding north on US 17 just south of Richmond Hill, was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup truck a few minutes before 1 p.m. today.
The cyclist, described by a Bryan County Sheriff Deputy as a middle aged male from Virginia, was transported to Memorial University Medical Center by ambulance for treatment.
While the extent of the man’s injuries is unknown, an official on the scene said he was conscious prior to be taken to Memorial.
The speed limit on the section of highway where the accident occurred is 55 MPH.
The accident is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol.
Sounds like he’s ok but very little info so far.

November 14, 2009. If you want to complete a century ride and never have, Cruisin’ in the Country is the choice a cyclist should make.
Hardly any other organized ride offers as many features as does the Claxton-Evans County Chamber of Commerce’s Cruisin’ in the Country. The cyclists’ needs are the foundation of the Chamber’s commitment to this event. Our support services, large volunteer base, foundation of experience and great organization go to making Cruisin’ a success year after year. Our community takes great pride in extending the tradition of Southern hospitality to the thousands of cyclists who have participated and continue to return for “the best ride in Georgia” as Bicycling Magazine stated years ago. This is not just a bike ride, but, there IS a bike ride
On October 17, 2009, the American Diabetes Association’s fall campaign takes on a new twist with three exciting sporting events all on one day. The focus is on outdoor fitness and underscores the importance of regular physical activity to good health and the prevention of type 2 diabetes. With Southeast Georgia and Coastal South Carolina’s mild year round climate, what better way to stay fit than to go outside for a walk, a bike ride, or a paddle in our beautiful waterways?
